6.2 Dress and Appearance At CVAS, we encourage our students to model Christianity to all they come in contact with – through their words, actions, conduct and appearance. It is the desire of the CVAS school board, administration and staff to maintain the influence of a Christian atmosphere on our campus through principles of modesty, neatness and appropriateness. We request that students arrive for class neat, clean, and properly dressed. Parents will be notified to bring appropriate clothing to school when these standards are not met. Dress code infractions in grades 5-8 may result in a LAB (see page on student discipline) as a reminder for students to be more careful in their choices for school.
6.2.1 Guidelines · Modest and tasteful clothing · Clothing in good repair or neatly repaired · Clothing that fit modestly, appropriately and comfortably · Clothing that contains questionable and/or inappropriate language or promotes a philosophy contrary to our Christian standard is not allowed · Shirts and tops that cover shoulders and midriffs at all times · Shorts, skirts, and dresses that are closer to the knee than the top of the inseam and that are modest and appropriate while sitting. · Shoes with closed toes and heels · A hairstyle that is neat, clean, and well groomed. Coloring of hair should be limited and kept to a natural color · Makeup, if worn, should be natural and inconspicuous. · Nail polish, if worn, should be clear.
Please do not wear: · Immodest, inappropriate, or worn out clothing · Clothing that reflects unchristian beliefs and standards · Baggy clothing or clothing that is too tight e.g. bicycle-style/spandex shorts. · Hats, caps or scarves inside our buildings. · Jewelry such as rings, friendship bracelets, earrings, necklaces, etc.
CVAS expectations in student dress and appearance apply to all on and off campus school-sponsored events and activities. Participation is a privilege that includes the responsibility of appropriate dress and appearance.
6.3 Distractions Items brought to school that may cause a distraction will be confiscated and returned at the end of the school year. These items may include playing cards, toys, trading cards, etc.
6.4 Drug-Free Campus CVAS works in cooperation with our home, church and community families to help our students remain free of all controlled substances, tobacco and alcohol. Because we strive to maintain a safe, positive environment, students who participate in any of the following activities will be disciplined and could be asked to withdraw from school · Misuse of non-prescription or prescription medication · Possession of controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, alcohol or tobacco in any form · Giving the impression of, or using imitations of any of the above mentioned items
6.5 Electronic Equipment · Radios, CD and MP3 players, IPods, game systems, televisions, or other electronic equipment are not permitted, and will be confiscated by staff. If the staff takes these items away, they may be kept until the end of the school year. · Students are reachable at all times while on campus – via the office phone during school hours or the daycare phone during after care hours. Therefore, personal cell phones are not necessary as they distract from the learning environment. If parents insist on their student having a cell phone at school, it is to be kept hidden and off while the student is on campus.
The school will not be responsible for any loss of personal property that is lost, stolen or damaged at school.
6.6 Friendships As young people get older and mature there comes a time that special friendships between boys and girls develop. Appropriate friendships are not discouraged at
6.7 Honesty Habits of hard work and honesty promote integrity, self-reliance, self-respect, responsibility, and trust. Grades on all assignments are to represent the best work of which students are capable. Individual progress cannot otherwise be fairly determined. This school assumes that all students enrolled are honest unless the trust placed in them is broken.
While students who practice dishonesty usually care a great deal about succeeding in school, they actually jeopardize the success of themselves and their peers. The consequences for such behavior may include failing grades, repeating the course in question, or dismissal from school. Dishonesty can occur in many forms, including but not limited to the following: · Allowing another student to copy or borrow from one’s work. · Copying or borrowing answers or ideas from another student’s work. · Using unauthorized notes or looking on another student’s paper during a test. · Working together on assignments when the assignment was not given as a team project. · Copying materials from written text (plagiarizing)
6.8 School Programs School programs include the Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, Talent Show, Back-to-School night, Parent Orientation, Church-school spotlights, music showcases and Academic Open House. School programs provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their talents and develop leadership skills. They also allow the entire school family to come together to cultivate community spirit, celebrate their children’s accomplishment and spend quality family time together. We appreciate the time that our school families invest in attending these school programs and wish to make it a positive, meaningful experience for all involved.
To help us achieve these purposes, we request that parents and families: · Arrive on time · Keep their child/ren with them at all times, unless the student is directly involved in the program · Limit conversation to before and after the program · Support our efforts in teaching our students program courtesy and etiquette by encouraging respectful behavior |
